The island of Barbados has more than 70 miles (110 km) of pink and white sand beaches, which are made of coral reefs that have been ground into a very fine powder by the waves of the ocean. There are no private beaches on the island. Barbados beaches are truly some of the most beautiful in the Caribbean! Some of our personal favourites are Carlisle Bay, Miami Beach, Crane Beach, Batts Rock Beach, Bath Beach, Sandy Lane Beach, * Bottom Bay and * Cattle Wash Beach. * Located on the east coast and not safe for swimming.

The months July through November are the traditional nesting months for the Hawksbill sea turtle. The stretch of beach from Coconut Court Beach Hotel and Needham’s Point provides nesting habitat for over 300 critically Endangered (IUCN Red List iucnredlist.org) Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata), representing about one third of the total hawksbill nesting population in Barbados.

The Barbados Sea Turtle Project at the University of the West Indies deploys GPS equipment on the sea turtles in order to define the marine habitats used by these turtles and the routes they use to and from the beach. In order to deploy the equipment, the animal will be allowed to nest and then gently restrained using a high-sided, open-topped wooden enclosure. Deployments will occur within the vicinity of Coconut Court Beach Hotel and we thank you in advance for your cooperation in the conservation of this important turtle population.

Barbados is known as a quality destination for diving with favourable conditions for diving all year round. Check out our man made reef and our reef balls located just a few yards from the beach in our lagoon. Please remember, do not touch the coral or disturb any marine life!
There are also two excellent dive sites (reef and wreck) located right off the coast in front of Coconut Court Beach Hotel (accessible by boat only). Coconut Court is located within minutes from the Carlisle Bay Marine Park with six (6) shipwrecks in close proximity. This is an excellent site for divers of all levels of experience, from beginner to expert. There is a great diversity of brilliantly coloured marine life including frog fish, sea horses, rays, barracudas, octopus, reef squid, mackerel and moray eels.

More than two dozen dive sites lie along the west coast between Maycocks Bay and Bridgetown and off the south coast as far as the St. Lawrence Gap. Certified divers can explore flat coral reefs and see dramatic sea fans, huge barrel sponges, and more than 50 varieties of fish. Nine sunken wrecks are dived regularly, and at least 10 more are accessible to experts. Underwater visibility is generally 80 to 90 feet.
